Orange text reading "Plant a seed, read"

Summer reading at the Elizabeth Taber Library runs from June 22 through August 15. This literacy-based program is designed to connect school-aged children and their families with books and library programs during the summer to combat summer slide! Additionally, our early childhood programs continue, because early literacy development doesn’t stop when the weather gets warmer!

If you have any questions about summer reading, please email our children’s librarian, Miss Macy, at mdavis@sailsinc.org

Reading Challenge

The bad seed and the good egg reading together.
  • Register starting June 22 in-person at the Library or online. Kids will be asked to set their own read goals. Kids ages 0-12 are invited to register. We have a separate reading program for teens and adults
  • Take home a book of your child’s choice to help them get started reading right away!
  • Read between June 22 and August 15! Your child’s goal might include reading a specific number of books, a set number of minutes each day, finishing the big series they’ve been reading
  • Reach your goal and show your log book at the Library to receive another book of your choice as a prize
  • Visit the Library over the summer to receive coupons to local businesses!

Regularly Scheduled Programs

All regularly scheduled programs will be held outdoors unless there is inclement weather or extreme heat. Programs will be moved in doors and announcements will be made on our social media page and by text. You can text @etlkids to 81010 to sign up for text notifications regarding children’s programs. We recommend bringing a blanket or towel to sit on, sunscreen or a hat (or both!), and a water bottle to all outdoor programs.

Held Mondays at 10:00 AM, lapsit storytime is designed for babies and toddlers ages 0 to 24 months. The focus of this program is on active caregiver participation and building caregiver familiarity with early literacy skills. We use the same songs, rhymes, and bounces for 6 to 8 weeks.

There will be no Lapsit Storytime on Monday, July 6

Family storytime is designed for ages 0-5 and their caregivers. Storytime is held on Wednesdays at 10:30 AM and focuses on the five early literacy skills: reading, writing, singing, talking, and playing. These skills are highlighted in songs, stories, rhymes, movement activities, and more. We use flannel boards, egg shakers, scarves, rhythm sticks, and puppets regularly!

Messy Morning is our sensory art program for toddlers and preschoolers ages 2-5. This program is held on Thursday mornings at 10:30 AM. We provide aprons, but encourage participants to dress for a mess. Some past projects include dot painting, ice painting, playdough, and puffy painting.

There will be no Messy Morning on Thursday, July 2
